For the second time in a week, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert urged a judge to show mercy for her eldest son as he was sentenced Thursday.

Boebert, a Republican running for re-election in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, asked District Judge Elise Myer in Garfield County to allow Tyler Boebert, 21, to serve any possible jail time at the same time he serves out a 20-day jail sentence he received in a Weld County case last week.
“He needs to be present for his son and provide for him,” said Boebert, who said she was speaking as a mother and grandmother. She acknowledged that he had broken the terms of his deal with the court.
Boebert is running against retired Navy Rear Admiral Eileen Laubacher in the 4th District, which stretches across the Eastern Plains and includes Douglas County.
Tyler Boebert was sentenced last week to one year of probation and 20 days in jail in Weld County for one count of child abuse that didn’t cause injury. He was charged with two counts after his toddler son twice wandered out of the home where he used to live with his mother. He pleaded guilty to one count.
He was charged in that case while on probation in the Garfield County case, where he was accused of being part of a group of friends who used credit cards stolen from cars to make purchases at gas stations. He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft, a felony, in 2024 under an arrangement that would have erased that conviction if he successfully completed his probation, which included not breaking any other laws.

But since he pleaded guilty in Weld County, Myer revoked his probation and resentenced him to two years of probation and 20 days in jail in Garfield County. She said he can serve both jail sentences at the same time in the Garfield County jail and apply to be in the jail’s work release program, which allows people to go to work but return to the jail at night. Work release was also allowed in the Weld County case.
Tyler Boebert, who now lives with his father and son in Silt, said he failed to keep his son safe and apologized to the victims in the identity theft case.
“This community has shown me grace and I am grateful for it,” he told Myer.
Myer noted that Tyler Boebert successfully completed 80 hours of community service as part of his original probation sentence but said he had tested positive for marijuana, which he was not allowed to use. She encouraged him to be honest about where he is in life and not understate things.
“In my opinion the best way forward is through,” Myer said. “So you’re just going to address some things head on.”
Tyler Boebert has also been charged in Garfield County with sexual exploitation of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allegedly making and sharing video footage of him having sex with a 17-year-old girl when he was 18. An arraignment in that case has been delayed until Oct. 8 so he can find a lawyer.
