Apple’s $1.5 billion manufacturing deal with chipmaker Broadcom announced Wednesday will greatly benefit a Fort Collins facility, where Broadcom has operated a semiconductor plant for years.

The capital expenditure investment, which Apple said is its largest as part of the company’s American Manufacturing Program, is expected to top $30 billion in value over the multiyear agreement and produce 15 billion wireless chips that are used in smartphones and wireless products. Apple said the investment could also lead to hundreds of new jobs in the area.
“The cutting-edge components built in Fort Collins are essential to delivering the incredible performance and connectivity our customers expect, and we’re proud to deepen our investments in U.S.-based suppliers that share our commitment to excellence and innovation,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.
Palo Alto-based Broadcom officials did not immediately respond to an interview request Wednesday morning.

Broadcom joined the Fort Collins technology community in 2015 after Avago Technologies acquired the chipmaker and rebranded as Broadcom. But Avago had been in the city for years, as part of the earlier spinoff of Hewlett Packard and Agilent Technologies. The plant made wireless chips for cellphones.
Apple, one of the world’s largest companies, has committed to investing $600 billion in U.S.-based manufacturing as part of its American Manufacturing Program. That has included tapping companies such as Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK and Qnity Electronics to make Apple components.
According to a spokesperson, Apple has “hundreds of employees” in Colorado at offices in Boulder and Denver. A lab in Boulder was completed in 2024 and was used to design and test Apple AirPods Pro 3 earbuds, according to a CBS News story last year.
